The Yamazaki (山崎 ) are descendants of a samurai clan from Kawagoe in the Kantō region. The Yamazaki line dates from the 18th century, and their land was awarded by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period.
The Yamazaki family is headed today by the ninth family leader, Akira Yamazaki. Naka, the daughter of the fourth honke was a friend of Tsuru Glover and wife of John Wilson, and the story of her life and marriage is likely contributory to the story Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini.
